Feeling Overwhelmed? Why ADHD Parent Coaching Could Be Your Next Step

As ADHD Awareness Month draws to a close, many parents may find themselves asking: Where can I find effective support for ADHD? The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends parent training as the number one treatment for ADHD in children. But here’s the challenge: much of traditional parent training focuses on using rewards and consequences—tools that often don’t address the root issues driving challenging behaviors.

At Heart 4 Kids Coaching, we believe in a different approach: teaching parents collaborative problem-solving skills that address underlying issues and empowering the child and family to grow in a way that works for everyone. This approach shifts the focus from “fixing” behaviors to understanding and addressing the real obstacles, fostering long-lasting change and resilience.

If you’re a parent navigating the challenges of raising a child with ADHD—or if you have ADHD yourself—coaching can offer transformative support. If any of these sound familiar, engaging a parent coach can provide essential support for your family:

Signs Parent Coaching is for You!

  • You often feel overwhelmed and unsure of how to support your child.

  • Daily routines feel scattered, and you’re not sure where to focus first—at home, school, or your family’s day-to-day.

  • ADHD-related behaviors are impacting your family relationships, whether it’s constant forgetfulness, emotional outbursts, or struggles with following through.

  • It feels like you’re ‘on’ 24/7, always on edge or putting out fires, leaving little time for you to recharge.

  • You feel like nothing is working, no matter how many hours or strategies you pour into managing ADHD challenges.

  • You recognize your child’s potential but need strategies to help them access it, especially with new transitions or responsibilities.

  • You’re successful in some areas but want to be more proactive. You want to learn skills like fostering independence, managing school communication, or teaching self-advocacy.

  • You want a safe space to talk openly about your parenting struggles without judgment, with someone who truly understands ADHD and will support you compassionately.

Why Parent Coaching Is Different

Parent coaching isn’t about telling you what to do. Instead, it offers guidance, support, and strategies to strengthen your unique family dynamic. However, to make the most of it, you need to be committed to the process—showing up, being present, and ready to experiment with new approaches.

As a parent coach, I won’t set up your morning routine or enforce discipline. But I will help you troubleshoot, problem-solve, and celebrate every step forward, supporting you in creating a calmer, more harmonious home.

Two Ways to Engage in Parent Coaching

So, how does it all work? Parent coaching can take place in group and one-on-one settings, each with unique benefits.

Group Coaching

Group coaching connects you with other parents who “get it.” It also provides gentle peer accountability that encourages growth. In our Best Mom Ever Group, we meet three times a month to explore topics like ADHD-friendly routines, communication strategies, emotional regulation, and fostering independence. There’s real power in hearing other parents’ perspectives, sharing solutions, and realizing you’re not alone on this journey.

One-to-One Coaching

One-on-one coaching offers a more personalized experience and helps address your family’s specific challenges. This format provides deep support, tailored insights, and a safe space to express your concerns and work through strategies that work best for your child and your family.
